If there’s one thing everyone can agree on (besides how delicious our vegan choc protein bars are), it’s that there’s nothing cool about global warming. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for ways we can be kinder to the planet.

If you’re trying to up your sustainability game this year, we’ve got your back. Here are seven things you can do to live a more sustainable life in 2022.

1. Start small
As much as you might want to get to work saving the planet right away, no one becomes a fully-fledged eco-warrior overnight. Just like a fitness plan or plant-based diet, sustainability is a long-term commitment, and there’s nothing worse than getting burnt out a couple of months in because you tried to take on too much at once.
Why not be kind to yourself (and the planet) by committing to one small change at a time, like walking to work once a week or switching to a reusable coffee cup? When it gets to the stage where you don’t even notice you’re doing it, that’s when you’re ready to try something new.

2. Get specific
If at some point you’ve found yourself puzzling over what it really means to be sustainable, you’re not alone. The truth is, sustainability covers loads of issues, from deforestation to fast fashion to industrial farming.
It’s a lot for one person to think about at once, but the good news is you don’t have to. Instead, pick a topic that resonates with you and let that be your guide when it comes to building a sustainable lifestyle. That way you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed by all the eco-friendly options out there and more likely to make the right decisions for you and the planet.

3. Embrace plant power
Did you know that switching to a plant-based diet can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 73%? Supercharge your sustainability by swapping meat for plant protein (more on that here!) and ditching dairy in favour of vegan alternatives. And if you’re looking for a delicious plant-powered snack to keep you going throughout the day, we’ve got you covered.

4. Rethink recycling
Don’t get us wrong, recycling is loads better than chucking stuff out willy nilly. But it’s not the only answer when it comes to being eco-friendly.
If you’re trying to be more sustainable this year, why not rethink recycling and opt for reusable products instead? Whether that means investing in a new water bottle or taking a tote bag out for a spin, switching to reusable is a great way to reduce waste and have a more positive impact on the environment.

5. Ditch fast fashion
There’s no shame in wanting to reinvigorate your wardrobe, but slow fashion is the way forward when it comes to sustainability. From shopping vegan clothing brands to borrowing outfits instead of buying, there are loads of options out there to help you save the planet and look great while doing it.

6. Reroute your commute
Not only is walking or cycling better for the planet than driving, a study by the University of East Anglia suggests it also improves our mental wellbeing. Participants in the study said that their concentration improved and they felt under less strain than when travelling by car. Not to mention the physical health benefits of exercise too.

If walking, cycling or public transport isn’t a viable option for you, car-sharing is another great way to reduce your carbon footprint by over 10% a year (and save you some money too!)

7. Support green businesses
Last but definitely not least, one of the best ways you can up your sustainability game in 2022 is by joining forces with your favourite green businesses.
Maybe we’re biased, but we think businesses doing their bit for the planet are pretty cool. If you think so too, why not show your support by trying their products and sharing your thoughts on social media?
